BEING FORGETFUL IS A WELLNESS REMEDY
I tend to forget upsets and misfortunes quite easily. Pain, disappointment, frustration — they usually do not stay in me for too long. It is also true that I need to be reminded of happiness I have experienced along the way.
I have good memory for random details, but my emotions have never been the kind that linger and weigh me down for long. They come, they move through, and then they leave space for life to continue.
So yes, I am a forgetful person after all.
For a long time, I thought forgetfulness was simply a flaw. But in recent years, I’ve started to see it differently. Maybe forgetting is not always a weakness, it is a quiet form of self-protection.
It is one way the self learns how to release what no longer needs to be carried. It is a quiet reminder that we do not have to hold on to every upset, every disappointment, every passing burden. We deserve the kind of inner space that can hold more joy, more clarity, and more life.
Of course, forgetfulness should not mean avoidance and reality still has to be faced. But when we are too tense, too upset, or too emotionally crowded, our inner balance disappears. We stop seeing clearly. We react too fast, judge too harshly, and often make decisions that do not truly serve us. That is why I think it helps to gently distract the mind in healthy ways to soften the pressure. A beautiful view, a good meal, a quiet walk, a conversation that makes you laugh — these simple things help us move away from emotional overload and return to a more balanced state.
This is one of the reasons I named my brand ETM Remedies — Enjoy This Moment.
I wanted a reminder that life is not meant to be held too tightly. The moment we are in right now is the only one we truly own. The past has already gone, and the future is still unfolding. So if I can learn to stay with this moment, I feel I can stay a little more free.
Think of the mind as our computer desktop. When too many files, tabs, and random things pile up, everything feels cluttered and slow. But when you tidy it up, move the unneeded files to the recycle bin, and let the system clear them out over time, the machine performs better again. There is more space, more speed, more room for what matters.
Our minds deserve that too.
