CITRONELLA
Cymbopogon winterianus
Citronella got its name from French, meaning "lemon balm", due to its citrusy scent. It is believed that the plant and its oil usage are discovered by people in China, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. It is widely used as natural insect repellent and household cleaning agent.
Citronella oil is extracted from the grass by steam distillation. Many people get confused between Citronella and Lemongrass. They belong to the same family but are completely different plants, Citronella has a stronger but much pleasant scent so it makes a better mosquito repellent.
In terms of emotional support, Citronella helps calm the anxious mind and reduce the sense of sadness. It also helps boost energy and assist with fatigue and nervous exhaustion.
Commonly used in the South East Asian countries, the aroma of Citronella often helps recall relaxing moments in spa and wellness venues, which is why it is a popular scent as well.
