LAVENDER

Lavendula angustifolia

Lavender has an historic usage for its aromatic and therapeutic properties. Back in 2,500 years ago, the Egyptians used the plant in mummification process. Lavender's name comes from the Latin word lavere, and the Romans used it for baths and washing clothes. It was also widely used as perfume scent.

The crop is native to the Mediterranean region but is now commonly grown in Asia, Americas, and Australia where warm, sunny, and dry weather allows.

Lavender essential oil is generally distilled from the flowers and it is well known for its emotional benefits such as relieving anxiety and depression. It is recommended for people experiencing insomnia and other sleep disorders. Research has suggested that breathing in Lavender’s aroma could improve sleep quality. Its calming effects can also soothe away a headache and
migraine.

Despite of its substantial effectiveness, Lavender is a very mild oil and is children and pet friendly.
